Crimewatch reconstructs Lancashire lorry hijack
March 09,2009 -
By BBC Crimewatch
|
At around 1pm on 9 March 2009, a lorry was hijacked as it approached a roundabout on Bluebell Way in Preston, Lancashire. The lorry cabin was pulling a 40ft trailer, containing high-value spools of copper wire used for the automotive industry.
The lorry driver stopped when a blue Peugeot 406 Saloon swerved in front of his vehicle. Two men jumped out of the car. Both were wearing suits with high-visibility jackets over the top and carrying clipboards with the distinctive VOSA (Vehicle Operating Services Authority) label on them. The driver of the Peugeot remained in the car.
The driver was forced to drive more than 100 miles to St Anne's Road in Bloxwich, Walsall and told to park up. Here, another lorry unit and driver arrived and disconnected his trailer, making away with the cargo of copper wire.

Lorry driver held after hijacker is stabbed to death
February 27,2009 -
By Martin Stote, Daily Express
A lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday after he stabbed to death a thief and injured two others – including a 15-year-old boy – who tried to hijack his truck.
The 41-year-old Greek had parked up overnight on an industrial estate to sleep when the gang, armed with heavy baseball bats, tried to steal his lorry.
The trucker, who injured his head, told police he owned the lorry and acted in self defence.
The victims, who were drenched in blood, called 999 for help.
An ambulance arrived at the scene, near a turn-off on the M6 for Birmingham, to find the three gone. In their panic they had driven 20 miles up the motorway to hospital where one of them, a 36-year-old man, died.
